As Kate and Susan wrote recently on PFund's blog:
“A ‘community foundation’ is just what it says it is: a foundation that takes seriously the voices, the vision and direction of the members of a community, raises money and other resources from that community, and then directs those resources back into community. Our role is to be responsive to current needs and issues. In other words, the foundation only provides the infrastructure for the work, the real excitement comes from all of you.”
It is with this understanding of our work that we will be holding listening circles throughout the Twin Cities Metro area over the next several months and throughout the region over the course of the upcoming year.
We want to hear from you about the conditions and issues that affect your day to day lives, at the level of neighborhood and your specific experience as someone who is LGBT or an ally. We are extremely excited to support PFund community members to meet and connect with their PFund neighbors; folks who live on your block and are similarly passionate about LGBT communities coming together to share resources towards making change happen.
We also want to have a conversation about resources and no, we aren’t using a code word for “money” or “fundraising.” We are curious to think about the ways in which community foundations can offer opportunities for individuals and organizations to come together and share resources in ways that make all of our neighborhoods stronger. Are you curious? We hope so.
